Facilities: Beautiful. Great resources. The gardens are divine and I'm delighted that my children had the chance to build dens, collect snails, etc. The 2-3 program is one of the few half-day programs available and allows for a gentle start. It offers transparency via weekly feedback and tracking via the EYFS and is to be recommended if you can get a spot. Very cute, small scale, great resources. The 3-6 program has solid academics, well designed learning resources and there are aspects that are wonderful; for example, forest school every week. The school day is shorter and allows a more gradual ramp up for the child. The program encourages inquiry and gives them a bit of freedom and initiative. Behaviour could be better and there is work to do here for both teachers and parents together to set/encourage expectations and then respect them. Of course, I was not infallible myself! The 6-12 program offers a warm environment. My oldest left with nice friendships in place, both French and international, and happy memories. They stay innocent a bit longer. Educationally, they gain research skills, get creative, do science activities, learn to collaborate and present in teams, write and perform plays, and spend a lot of time in nature. They come out confident, well socialised and kind. Personally, I chose to shore up the written and rote learning elements of French and English with a few 'study at home' workbooks, because the school has a mix of levels of fluency in both languages; mainly to reinforce English spelling, and because French conjugation never ends. Montessori is powerful for teaching concepts, but to move across to the French system, it is, in my view, prudent to get them to produce some traditional corrected writing every week as they lead up to the move, so they are used to the format. My oldest was accepted to Lycee International in Saint-Germain-en-Laye for CM1 (American Section); youngest went into British Section. Academically both have been fine so far in the benchmarking assessments and have adapted well. France, particularly Paris, is an immense culture shock if you are coming from an anglophone country, and E&D gave my kids a slightly softer landing. I wish the school well.
My daughter was in Etre et Découvrir for 2 years. It was a great experience for us as a family & her. If you are looking for bilingual Montessori with a great ambiance, you should consider this school.
